Children Affected by Domestic Abuse

Children and Young People Affected by Domestic Abuse is a KCC early intervention programme.

Created for ages 5-13 years old who have experienced domestic abuse in their homes. A therapeutic group programme for children who have experienced trauma linked to domestic abuse, children must be:

  •  aged 5-13yrs
  •  have a history of family domestic abuse
  •  no longer living with the abusive family member

Skilled staff will work with children in group settings with each session focussing on an interactive activity which helps to develop confidence and self-esteem

The programme aims to:

  • improve children's self-esteem
  • increase emotional understanding, resilience and empathy
  • develop self-awareness of physical and emotional reactions
  • develop caring and respect towards others
  • develop emotional resilience and coping strategies through engaging and fun activities


    Referrals to any of our services are welcome from any agency or young person. 

    The service can be accessed via the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) where a young person may access other required services or through a non-CAF direct referral. 

    Clients who meet eligibility criteria will be engaged in an assessment of their needs and planning for the most appropriate support. 

    Where appropriate a child or young person may be engaged in therapeautic support alongside the mentoring programmes.
